Science and the future
FrieslandCampina Ingredients has a major, state-of-the-art research and innovation centre based in Wageningen in the Netherlands (NL), with test labs and kitchens in all regions of the world. Our NL facilities include a full pilot plant; a sensory department; and a dedicated team of nutritionists. We work closely with leading universities, research centres and consortia all over the world on clinical trials and R&D programmes.
We’re proud that our GOS (galacto-oligosaccharide) prebiotics are the most researched in the world.
We work closely with Wageningen University, which is recognised as the world’s top Food & Agriculture University, with key academic staff holding leading scientific chairs in immunology and sustainable food production.
We also partner with NIZO, an important independent Netherlands-based contract research organisation supporting food and health customers. In addition, we conduct significant clinical trials with top universities and noted experts worldwide.
Our GOS prebiotics have been extensively trialled and tested in the context of both Early Life Nutrition and Adult Nutrition, where we’ve thoroughly investigated its potential health benefits, including gut and digestive health, and immunity.
Other areas of research where our accomplished scientists at Wageningen focus are sleep, sports nutrition research, medical nutrition, protein and muscle synthesis. Along with a wide variety of consumer and sensory studies.
16 clinical trials on the effect of FrieslandCampina GOS in adults have been published to date. 14 investigator-initiated trials with FrieslandCampina GOS are currently running in adults.
And 63 clinical trials have been published on the effect of FrieslandCampina GOS in infants/children (either on its own or combined with other prebiotics, such as fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) or Polydextrose (PDX)).
We currently have 17 collaborations on GOS R&D in progress, working together with leading academic organisations, research institutes and research consortia.
